Nengajo (new year's post card) Contest
The AATJ Nengajo Contest is a nationwide contest for students in elementary school, middle school, high school, and university. All participants receive a certificate of participation. Winners at each level in each category also receive certificates and prizes from AATJ.
The Nengajo Contest is an excellent advocacy and teaching opportunity for your program. Many students love artistic pursuits, and this is their chance to shine in your class. It also represents an excellent chance to practice language and culture.
2015 will be the Year of the Sheep, and the Sheep will be the subject of AATJ’s 2015 Nengajo Contest.
A Computer Graphic category has been added to the contest this year. Now we have 4 categories: Artistic, Comical, Original, and Computer Graphic. Each teacher can nominate 2 cards per category, for a total of 8 students. Since the use of technology is one of the important 21st-century skills, we hope to see this addition increase the number of contest participants.
Detailed descriptions of the four categories can be found here.
The winners in each category will be awarded a certificate and an Amazon gift card. Their card images will be displayed on the AATJ website, and all participants will receive a certificate of participation.
There are small changes in the rules, but overall the procedure will be the same as in previous years. You need to be a 2014 member in good standing of AATJ in order to nominate your students. If there is more than one AATJ member at your school, each member can nominate a total of 8 students (2 students per category.) Please check your membership status before submitting the cards. The submission must be postmarked on or before Saturday, December 27.
For 2014, 510 cards were submitted by 122 teachers at schools nationwide. Please click here http://www.aatj.org/nengajo-contest/2014 to see a slide show of the Year of the Horse winning cards.
